My students need art supplies, such as construction paper and glue sticks, to use for a school-wide self portrait viewing. Students' self-portraits will be displayed throughout the school.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I encourage students to tell their personal story through creating a self-portrait, which reveals their unique personality. Students will show their artistic vision of themselves through creating a collage self-portrait.
Our "Tiger" students are joyous, outgoing, artistic and eager to please.
The students' energy level is infectious! These young and bright minded students excel at any and everything they do. Both teachers and parents play a major role in encouraging students to focus on academics. Many of our students are at-risk and come from single family households. Therefore, we push these eager minds towards reaching both their academic and artistic dreams. Our students thrive on doing; this is why we correlate the arts to all subject core areas of learning. The school approach towards students learning has shown great success. Students, parents, teachers, and all stakeholders are in full agreement that our number one goal is "Helping students grow through rigorous academics and the arts."
My Project
Upon receiving funding for this grant, my student's lives will change through the creation of developing a special art project. After having written a journal paper detailing their characteristics, students will create a self-portrait collage. The construction paper and glue provided through this grant will offer the students a chance to create a self-portrait collage. Pulling from their memory and written pieces, student's will capture their own unique qualities and characteristics on paper. Students when developing their collages will learn how a written work of art can help them develop an artistic piece of work. Students will also learn that self-expression writing can aid with detailing your artistically feelings. Students will learn how to connect their writing to art.
Your funding this project will make a difference to 350 at-risk students whose desire is to learn and be creative.
The funding from this project will necessitate a desire by students to push themselves to levels of greatness in learning. Secondly, this funded project will allow students to transfer their written expressions to the creation of an original piece of artwork.
