This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Paint a Story.
Learning is power! Hello. I am a second grade teacher with a lot of heart. I teach in a predominately Hispanic urban district where 98% of our children receive free lunch and who have no money for supplies. I try very hard to buy what they need but my budget is limited. The kids are wonderful, but unfortunately our school does not have many resources. Our school is lacking in funds and I don’t like to see the kids suffer because of it. Most of our children have a problem reading and speaking English. I am proposing that a Listening Center be purchased for the children so that they can enjoy books and listen to the English language without struggling.
Paint A.….. Write A….. Story!
This is the name of my project. I will have the children listen to a story on tape while following along in the book. They can listen to it once or twice if they want. They will then discuss the story with their group using question prompts. When complete, they will listen to the story without following in the book and as they are listening they will paint with watercolors a picture of what they see when they hear the story. After they are done painting they will write a little summary of the story. Paintings will then be displayed in class and on our bulletin board!
The experience of listening to a story and writing about it, addresses multiple intelligences and focuses on differentiated instruction! Using this critical teaching technique we focus on teaching the whole child. With your help, children will be able to listen to stories and gain a greater understanding of the English language, practice their writing skills and create an experiential learning activity that will be both fun and engaging. With your help, our minority children will have a greater opportunity to break down the barriers to language learning and development and close the achievement gap in today’s educational climate!
Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
