Located just twenty miles outside of New York City in Westchester County, the Mount Vernon City School District is where urban living meets suburban living. This unique combination makes our school district uniquely situated to educate some 8,000 students.

The City of Mount Vernon, long known as a bastion of culture, entertainment and athletic prowess, has cultivated such great talent as Art Carney, Dick Clark, Heavy D, and Ben Gordon of the Golden State Warriors.

Under the leadership of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton the district is undergoing a significant transformation, refocusing on academics, raising student achievement and ensuring that ALL students graduate high school both college and career ready.

Through the reestablishment of a Career and Technical Program, Mount Vernon provides opportunities for students to attain skills and on the job training in high demand fields such as the culinary arts, Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition (HVAC) and automotive repair to name a few. In the spring of 2016, the residents of the City of Mount Vernon overwhelmingly approved a $108 million bond referendum that will fundamentally change the trajectory of the Mount Vernon City School District. Dubbed the 20/20 Vision, the bond will allow the district to provide universal, full day Pre-K to families throughout Mount Vernon. It will also see the conversion of the district’s elementary schools into Kindergarten through eighth grade learning centers. The 20/20 Vision will also create three unique high schools of excellence. Mount Vernon High School will become the premiere CTE High School in Westchester County as well as offer the prestigious Internationale Baccalaureate Program. The current A.B. Middle School will become the district's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Academy for 9th-12th graders.
