Morton Independent School District, which serves the City of Morton, Texas and the surrounding area, was established in the 1920’s. The District, located 65 miles northwest of Lubbock, on the western border of Region XVII, encompasses 216 square miles. Morton is a rural community of approximately 2000 people. Morton’s present economy is driven predominately by farming and ranching. Morton ISD consists of one campus: Morton School. The total enrollment is approximately 400 students, Pre-K through the 12th Grade, with 94.11 % of the student population as low socioeconomic.

The 2020 Tax rate for Morton ISD will be $.97 per $100 of value. Our local tax effort is at a high level. Morton’s economic base is at a depressed level. Cochran County was the first county to exceed the maximum for the CRP program that was utilized by farmers because of the low productivity of the acreage. The high level of CRP participation and the number of years of drought have adversely impacted the business community. The last department store closed leaving the community with limited businesses. The change in the economic climate has caused a large drop in the population of the community. Morton ISD seeks grants and utilizes funds from the state and federal governments to provide the optimum educational experiences for all students. Support from any other venue is greatly needed and appreciated.

Our mission is is to educate every student by combining The Wisdom of Yesterday, The Technology of Today and The Vision for Tomorrow to develop the foundational skills and character needed to thrive as a productive member of society. We achieve our mission by focusing improvements in infrastructure and facilities, professional development of staff, innovative instructional approaches and educational technology. We want our students to have every opportunity to reach their full potential and become productive society members. In the past couple of years, we have seen our district student numbers grow, academic perform increase and larger student engagement in Athletic, FFA, FCCLA and UIL Competitions.

We are incredibly proud of our district and our traditions and we strive to ensure our students have every resource possible to compete in the larger world. We are a small school with BIG IDEAS! We appreciate you support.

Message from the Superintendent

We’re very excited to join the DonorsChoose District Partnership Program because it opens up new opportunities for teachers to fund projects that will help them provide the kind of educational experiences our students need to be prepared to thrive as productive members of society in the 21st Century. By partnering with DonorsChoose, we can better support Morton ISD teachers who are creating lessons that increase students’ excitement about coming to school every day. A partnership with DonorsChoose will benefit our programs and will help us supply necessary materials and incentives to see that this goal is met.
