As the Superintendent of Columbus County Schools, a rural district with over 90% of our school population qualifying for the National School Lunch Program, I appreciate that DonorsChoose provides a platform for the community to support our educational efforts. The community, locally and across the nation and world, have and continue to provide resources to our students that would not otherwise exist. Our school district tries to provide what our students need to be successful in school. At times, our students’ needs are much greater than our existing resources. Our district is so grateful for the passion and compassion of others as they support our students.

Columbus County Schools is a rural district in North Carolina with 14 schools and approximately 5200 students. Our district is the 3rd largest district in the state based on geographic size. We have a true desire and expectation to provide students with the best educational experience that is possible. Our vision and mission are setting our trajectory for student success.

The last two years have been challenging with a ransomware cyberattack and the pandemic. Our students and staff are very resilient. They demonstrated this by transitioning from having no technology available for a few months due to the cyberattack to providing instruction only through technology when the pandemic occurred. Our staff has a true passion for the success of our students.
