  • Building the ideal student experience — Student learning, achievement, and lifelong success are the focus of the Anchorage School District. Within the District, families have many academic choices to meet a variety of student needs. Equitable access and opportunity are keys to building a successful learning path for each student. ASD celebrates our differences and is committed to inclusion of all our community's languages, cultures, and perspectives. A diverse student population provides students the ability to interact with peers from many different backgrounds, expanding their knowledge of other cultures and preparing for life in a global society, and Anchorage has the some of the most diverse schools in the U.S. at all levels. Minority students comprise more than 50 percent of the student population. The district is committed to supporting the learning of all students through implementation of social-emotional learning and trauma informed practices. In fiscal year 2020-2021 ASD will continue to provide professional learning on Youth Mental Health First Aide, Capturing Kids Hearts, Second Step, Connected and Respected, Lions Quest, and CHAMPS. With community support and engagement with families, we can continue to provide a safe and inspirational learning environment for our 43,000 students, building a better tomorrow.
