My students need individual carpet squares to be able to comfortably sit around the classroom. Providing flexible seating gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. It helps students to work collaboratively on a project, which in turn helps them learn to communicate and engage in critical thinking. Studies have shown flexible seating improves student engagement, which has a major impact on their grades. Students are able to have more invigorating conversations which leads to more participation during class. By giving the students choices in how they learn they are able to determine what works best for their preferred learning style. In my vision of a flexible classroom, I see students lying on the floor, standing up at desks and sitting in beanbags, and on Wobble Chairs and stability balls. Students can choose daily which type of seating is conducive to their learning. I want to evolve my classroom space to meet my students' individual needs. Doing so will impact how they learn, how they interact, and their entire classroom experience.
