Traditional bookshelves show the spines of books, but spines are hard for youngsters to read sideways! It’s also difficult to pull one book off the shelf without a tumble of others to follow, not to mention the challenge of replacing unwanted books properly back on the shelf. Book Browsers are library book shelves designed so young readers can easily scroll through forward facing picture books. This method of shelving books is ideal for our younger students to more easily see the title and cover art of books and thereby independently choose a library book. This summer, our library is moving to a new, bigger space in the school! Our new space will be a 21st century learning environment for innovation, creativity and enhanced curriculum opportunities. It’s an ideal time to add Book Browser shelving units to our library for storing and displaying picture books in a way that enables our students to browse easily and independently while choosing their school library books. They would eliminate the need to move our current, industrial metal shelving which has high, difficult to reach top shelves and is damaged from over 50 years of use to our new, modern library space. Your contribution toward these book browsers will add to the students’ excitement when they come to the new library and are able to easily choose a picture book that they are eager to read. Finally, if you are wondering if this donation is worthwhile during the pandemic, please realize that while students might not make use of these new book browsers as the 2020-2021 school year begins, eventually, school procedures will return to normal and students will visit the library to choose books. Please help us be ready for their first and all future visits to the new library after these trying times.
