The students I teach are incredible. They come from varied backgrounds, but most of them overcome intense struggles every day, whether they are dealing with their past or present. Often they are dealing with issues so great that it makes it hard to concentrate on school. 77% of the students live at or below the poverty line, which means several of them don't have permanent housing. These students, however, are passionate about learning when it is presented to them in a way they can connect to. Music and dreams of the future are escapes for many, especially my students. They learn very well through song and dance, and that has become a major component of my instruction.
