These books, while not directly involved in my instruction, will help my students build their reading proficiency. These books fall at a range of reading levels so that each student is able to read a book at their independent reading level. Books series like Sofia Martinez share cultures and experiences that many of my English Language Learners can relate to. I Survived and Weird School Daze take kids on fun adventures that teach lessons about history and life. Not all of my students have access to books at home, so the ability to check books out of our classroom library will boost at home reading as well. Reading is such a key skill that crosses through all curricular areas, so building proficiency in reading will boost scores across all subject areas. Without the help of generous donors, this endeavor will not be possible. I know that these books will help my students fall in love with independent reading and get them closer to their goals.
