As a first grade class we move around the classroom a lot. We have a carpet that we sit on, special chairs in the library, a small group area and lots of floor space. The one place that students have to sit still throughout the day is there desk. More and more of my students have the most difficult time sitting at their desk either still or safely. Many students are bouncing their legs, squirming in their chairs, or the worst is when the sit unsafely in their chairs. I want to purchase a classroom set of Bouncy Bands. These devices hook to each child's desk and has a big band that stretches out for their feet to be on. They use this device to move or bounce their feet so that there is minimal distraction in the class. This should eliminate the fidgeting and sitting unsafely in their seats. It will also improve their learning because instead of being distracted by their own bodies they will have an outlet for all that energy.
