A joy for reading has such a high impact on children's learning and childhood. As a math teacher, I love the end of the day when students have a chance to just read in my homeroom. It's the only part of the day I get to dig into stories and words with them! However, we do not have many books and most are old and torn. Currently, our middle school does not have a library. With your help, my students can choose from a variety of stories that show lives that match theirs and their families with new authors and fun graphic novels. They'll be able to find multiple opportunities through this class library to engage in new ways with literature. In the book choices below, most are ones that kids in my classes suggested for this project and wish they could get access to. They are ones like "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" which is a graphic novel of a young African-American girl going on surreal adventures. There are a few books in Spanish for my students who are still learning English so that they can engage with reading in a fun, comfortable way. I'm really excited about bringing more energy and enthusiasm to their reading block in my grade, and the kids are too. Thank you for helping us make this happen!
