"First we eat, then we do everything else." – M.F.K. Fisher. We have partnered with a community resource so that many of our students can receive some food to help get them through the weekend. Our students are very grateful for the food that they get, but most of this food doesn't last our students for the whole weekend. We hope to help supplement the food from our community food pantry with healthy snacks and meals that will help sustain our students until they can return to get a school meal on Mondays. At our school, we have over 400 students who live with a community with no local grocery store and minimal access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and many of the staples we take for granted. Approximately two-thirds of our students would qualify as 'chronically hungry.'
