In Tennessee, 6th graders get the opportunity to learn the science of the world around us. This includes learning about food chains, webs, and the importance of ecosystems in various biomes around the world! For the last two years, we have enjoyed getting to reinforce our understanding by dissecting owl pellets (regurgitated prey parts that the predator cannot digest)! Owl vomit is a great way to engage middle school students of all language and science backgrounds. We get to have a lot of fun exploring and picking apart chunks of bone and fur and piecing skeletons back together. Students even get the opportunity to take home dissection findings and get excited to share what they've learned with family and friends. Please consider contributing to this project to encourage a posture of discovery and excitement to learn and do science!
