When someone goes to the library, they know books they want to read. We see others reading a certain book and we become interested in that title. The literature that is available for upper elementary is very high quality. Students who read in English have no shortage of choices. Students who read in Spanish have fewer options for that high quality literature. I want to provide our dual language students the chance to read such popular titles as Wonder and The One and Only Ivan in Spanish along with many others. When we provide our dual language students with Spanish materials of the popular titles their English language friends enjoy, they will learn to love reading. Students will feel more connected to each other when they can share the experience of reading the same books. These titles will help our students read books at their level as they learn to read and write in both English and Spanish. Our dual language students will be biliterate when they finish high school.
