I have created a Positive Behavior Plan for the students at my school. Students will earn TJ credits if they go above and beyond as an example to the school. Every 2 weeks, they will be invited to the school store to spend what they have earned. They have the power to earn as much or as little as they choose. The more credits they have, the better the reward becomes or the more they can buy. Teachers will have a way of rewarding students for teaching the right behavior, instead of punishing students for something they didn't fully understand. For example, a child who earns a credit can buy a pencil or a bookmark. As he/she learns about the expectations, more credits will be earned. Then he/she will be able to buy higher priced items such as rings or paratroopers. For those students who always set a good example, they'll earn more. They will be able to spend their money on the biggest items such as yo-yos, pom-poms, and sports items. This will inspire other students to try harder to demonstrate the expectations of the school. I have seen similar programs where students become mentors through this system. By providing rewards that promote schoolwork and collaboration, I hope to make a safe and healthy climate at my school.
