Making sure that my students basic needs are met is an essential component in motivating them. The more comfortable they are, the more willing they are to work. When they have comfortable seating, when they are fed and feel valued, when they feel loved... then they are ready to give all that they have to grow and learn. I firmly believe that their most basic needs have to be met before we can expect them to do much. That is why comfortable seating, a warm, cozy nurturing environment and healthy snacks are essential for every classroom. The next step is to teach them to take care of, and honor their environment and those around them. Once that is accomplished ... students go far!
