My students are fantastic. They are inquisitive, excited about learning, full of energy, and extremely creative. They are experimental. They have the desire to do well. Unfortunately, most are also extremely poor and school is their refuge. Several, I know, live in their car. Others dress in gang clothes not because they are in gangs but to avoid being harassed by gang members on their way to/from school. They are good kids who have not been totally lost yet. Students who I can still influence for the better and keep them away from temptations. Students whom, with some guidance, can go on to do great things and change their destiny.....change their stars.
