My students are quite diverse in backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. They are always wanting to learn more and love to be creative -- making their own music, composing, arranging, etc. We are not funded at all and having a class set of ukuleles would allow them to individually and cooperatively make music and experience composition opportunities. Being so close to Nashville, students are inundated with the music business, but many of them do not have the resources or finances for private lessons. Learning the basics through a general music classroom will allow ALL my students the opportunity to learn an instrument, not just those whose families can afford what is quite often a luxury.
