My students are eager to learn. We are learning the joys of reading by incorporating the Daily 5 structure for our reading block. They are loving the choice they have each day to choose what they want to learn. Most of my students come from a low income family and 99 percent of our school population receives free or reduced lunch. Some of our students have difficult home environments that they must contend with each day. At our school, we strive to create a safe and nurturing environment so our students can learn and excel despite their background or socio-economic status. We have a large student body of over 500 students. Resources are scanty so we must be creative. Despite all of the challenges our students are ready and eager to learn.
