Unfortunately, the funding for public education is allocated for specific things and furniture is not one of them. The desks in my classroom are older than I am and many of them are much too small for my students. My students need seating options that allow them to comfortably collaborate with their peers. Many of my students have to turn sideways to fit in their desks. Sixth graders are often uncomfortable with their bodies because they are going through lots of changes and growing quickly. If they are already uncomfortable in their skin, I want to do everything I can to help them be comfortable in my classroom. I want my students to be able to collaborate with partners or groups. Our current desks are not conducive to groups. These desks were built during the "old-school" days of education, where desks were made for rows and columns.
