Laurens Elementary is a Title 1 school that serves approximately 730 students. My class consists of 20 awesome students from different backgrounds and varying abilities. Currently, about 50% of my students are reading below grade level. My students work hard everyday and are willing to do whatever it takes to increase their reading abilities. Some of the things currently implemented are: Daily Response to Intervention (RTI) groups that work on different reading skills dependent on the need; Reading and Writing Workshop; Guided Reading; 30 for 30 time (students are given the opportunity to read books of their choosing everyday at school for 30 minutes and are encouraged to read 30 minutes at home as well). At Laurens Elementary we are dedicated to providing our students with the best instruction and tools possible to help them reach their fullest potential.
