The students that I teach attend a Title I school in a very rural area in Horry County, South Carolina. It is my hope that the students I teach leave the art room with a greater appreciation for the arts and an understanding of the many ways that art can be valuable in their daily lives. My intent is to expand their horizons through the use of personal experiences in traveling through cultural districts of the South West, sharing relevant artistic resources, building a culture of creativity, teaching students how to be art critics, and most importantly teaching students how to use various media and methods to create art. The personal element to creating art is the most powerful part of what students can be taught. The experiences in this classroom can lead students to accomplish great things once they realize that it is their thoughts and their ideas which drive the success of their work.
