Most of my student's are at risk; at risk of not making it through high school because of their nationality and because of their socioeconomic status. I don't believe this. I believe it's up to me (to us, teachers) to give each kid a fighting chance. We have to give them the tools they need to succeed, and at this age (7-8) they are SO hungry for it all. Most of the students in my campus of approx 1,000 kids are ESL. Our scores show it; but scores are only a reflection of their test taking skills. This years class was my class last year; they're creative, hard-working, dedicated, smart, funny, and excited about going to college! I want them to know that they WILL go to college!
