All of my students want to learn to the best of their ability. As of right now, I have a limited number of seating options for my students other than regular tables. In the classroom, flexible seating will allow my students to choose a spot that is best for their learning style and comfort. As students use flexible seating they are able to grow their needs in areas such as: naturalization, stimulation, and individualization. According to a study done by Edutopia, optimizing all of these physical characteristics of primary classrooms improved academic performance in reading, writing, and mathematics by 16%. Did you hear that? SIXTEEN PERCENT!! Sixteen percent is a high amount when you are trying to help students who are way below grade level. And pushing those students who are above grade level by sixteen percent? AMAZING! Classroom flexibility is also said to be just as important as a student's air quality, light, or temperature in boosting academic outcomes. By having flexible seating such as flex bands, exercise balls, portable lap desks, stability cushions, and a balance board, I can serve my students' needs to move around and learn in various ways. The flex bands are great to give those students who need a chair some form of movement. I love how the exercise balls give students a way to bounce for those students who need that constant movement. The balance board helps those students who learn best standing by giving them something to stand on that also allows them to move. As you can see, flexible seating is such a great way to help children succeed. Please consider giving my students the chance to not only have flexible seating, but to grow as students and productive citizens in this diverse world!
