My school is very small and only has one teacher. It is critical that I build a relationship with each student and find out what interests them. This helps me offer my students voice and choice in their educational process. My students come from a lot of different backgrounds but they all have one thing in common: they are here to fix a mistake. Each student comes to us after being charged with a crime and will spend time working on their education and therapy that is associated with that charge. Who are they? Kids. They are just like other kids out there but somehow they were forgotten along the way...by their parents, their school, their community. Now we are their community and it is our responsibility to help them get ready to find success in the world.
