My students are in high poverty 56% free/reduced lunch households,and are in an urban setting; many are in one parent income households. A lot of our students are highly mobile due to these demographics. I have 37% black students, 51% white,10.4% Hispanic, 1.6% Asian, and .7% Native American. I teach 7th grade applied Physics and Engineering, science and robotics. Our school is a 5-8th grade building. We have about 20:1 student to one teacher ratio. Our special Education teachers co-teach with math and Literacy teachers. Special education students are mainstreamed in all classes.Students are very multi-cultural and willing to help others. I teach science, Pre AP Science, engineering classes and robotics, and many students compete in robotics and engineering competitions at the local, state, and national levels.Many participate in my after school robotics and engineering clubs.
