I am an English Language Arts teacher at Pontiac High School, a Title I school in Pontiac, MI. I work with a diverse group of scholars, most from low-income families, who face challenges many of us can only imagine: single-parent households, teen parenthood, homelessness, drugs and crime in their neighborhoods, PTSD, immigration statuses, and language barriers to name a few. Nevertheless, they are driven to succeed despite obstacles in their way. It is my hope to provide them with some tools to utilize on their paths to success. This year, I will be facilitating reading intervention to provide support to the many students who are not receiving services from ESL or special education instructors.
