It can be challenging to find the right books, especially chapter books, for reluctant readers. I have found that carefully selected books in which students can identify with the characters or story plot really engage students to develop into recreational readers. So, when it is time for guided reading, pair/small reading groups, or independent reading there is a significant decrease in students being disengaged while reading. The novels that I have selected through this project will increase students' stamina and engagement while reading. Also, these novels will aid in building students' stamina/endurance to prepare for Virginia's mandated CAT reading test.
