These books will capture students interests and help my students acquire Spanish. Data shows that second language acquisition happens more quickly when students are reading in the language. Students won't feel nervous about reading because they will read for pleasure only! With these leveled readers students will also learn about the culture of different Spanish speaking countries. In Maria Maria, students find out how a Puerto Rican family prepares for hurricane Maria, the massive storm from which this island is still recovering. Students will relate to Ben who is willing to do anything for his own car, even travel to El Salvador. In Tumba, students will learn about a special Mexican celebration called Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead from Alex and his strange grandma.
