Reading is one of the best ways to learn a language. My students love to read but they do not have the books to read in Spanish. By reading a book that is both comprehensible, and of interest, the students will gain a wealth of new vocabulary as well as seeing sentence structures and cohesive devices used in the proper manner without having to focus on grammar. This is the way we learned our languages as children, by reading books and having others read books to us. Through repeated exposure to the language, it becomes ingrained in the mind without having to think about how to conjugate a verb or what ending the adjective needs. I would like to grow my classroom library to provide books for my beginning students to read in Spanish. I am looking for books that are basic and also some that they have already read in english so that they are able to comprehend what they are reading.
