I serve 46 students who are reading and writing between one to two grade levels behind. The objective of this proposal is to obtain Chromebooks so that I can teach the 21st literacy skills that are outlined in Common Core standards, and my students actually have a chance to practice them. There are a wealth of computer based passages already available to our district that cover our standards, but we just don't have the capacity to access them. By funding our project, you will giving our students an opportunity to interact with complex texts, conduct research, and write about what they read in meaningful ways. Our students will able to interact with their peers by sharing writing and having conferences about what they are reading and writing in small groups. We have seen dramatic improvement with reading and writing in schools where students had access to complex texts, and we have those texts with already paid for subscriptions but lack the technology for students to access them. These students deserve a chance to access the standards just like their more affluent peers and this project will give them the opportunity to do so.
