My students are pretty awesome. Though typical teenagers, most of them come from solid family values and still respond with the "yes, ma'am" that has fallen by the wayside in other parts of the nation. Our school is located in the heart of the Cajun/Creole region of Louisiana, and as a French teacher, I'm very fortunate that we have such as strong French-influenced culture. Though our school is the largest high school in the state, I do all I can to make it feel like we're a small community in my classroom. I teach those who are just beginning their journey with the French language, and in order to authentically learn (and have fun while doing so), they need to constantly participate in partner or group activities. After wanting to see more authentic speaking in my students, I've recently decided to change my methodology. My classroom is now deskless and 100% in French. The students love it!
