It's no secret that some students just do not like to read. I chose these books carefully, while also trying to align with our three major units for the year: The Hero's Journey, Dystopias, and The Holocaust. I want students to feel a sense of independence when it comes to reading - they don't necessarily like being told what they are going to read for the year, and it can shut them down quickly. For that reason, I have also selected a few special interest reading choices. Sometimes students need to escape to a world that is unlike their own, and sometimes they just want to read about a person who is having a worse day than they are. Each of these books offers my students a different perspective and experience that I hope they will enjoy. I have chosen 2 of each book to promote reading partners and so they have someone to discuss their reading with.
