100% of our students receive free lunch, breakfast and snacks. They are high poverty and high needs students. Our school is a Title I school but the extra money we receive is spent on extra personnel and instructional materials. This means there is not much money left over for innovative ideas such as maker spaces and centers in the library. I have implemented the use of literacy centers and want to add maker spaces to the centers. Our students do not come to school with the skills necessary to be successful in life. They need to practice working together to solve problems. Providing maker spaces will give them a chance to create collaboratively, which will enhance their social skills. I hope these spaces will inspire students to return often to the library to get books and use their imaginations. We will take pictures of their designs and add them to a bulletin board so everyone can see their projects.
