My students are currently identified as working below grade level in reading, writing and/or math. With tablets, students are able to access research based supplemental reading, writing and math programs in a gamified fashion. My students work hard to earn time to read books online or have them read to them, set monthly goals to improve their fluency and comprehension, and preview and review essential math concepts by utilizing technology to independently practice these skills. In addition, students in my special education program are learning how to use the data collected from these supplemental programs to set goals, monitor their progress and intentionally move toward meeting their goals. With tablets in our classroom that are up to date and working, students will be able to work on improving their reading, writing and math skills with the goal of accessing and finding success with grade level material. Having a set of tablets in our classroom would mean that my students would have an incentive to work toward and assist them in taking pride and ownership in their learning.
