I have been blessed to work with great students in 3rd and 5th grade who have a variety of special education needs; academic and attentional areas are their biggest challenges. Our school is a PreK-5 building and is in a small close knit community. Many families in our school also receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Many times when my students are working, they have asked to borrow one of the 2 pairs of headphones from our listening center. The headphones end up distracting them just as much, since the headphones have cords that get in the way while they are trying to work. At other times, my students have asked if we could listen to some music. I find some awesome or funny music on the computer, and then we have a mini choir in our room, with the students singing, smiling, and doing their work. These two options are great, but they aren't always the best choice for all the students all the time.
