We are a Kindergarten class that focuses on teaching through play-based and hands on instruction. We create art, write and illustrate books, learn math using many methods, and conduct science experiments. We learn how to read a map, ride a city bus, and learn about our unique community by taking at least 8 field trips a year. We especially enjoy listening to special guests who teach us about their professions and give us an opportunity to experience their work. This includes police, fire fighters, scientists, local chefs, work study students, superintendent, principal, and dentist. During the school year we learn to build a community; which fosters individuality and differences, through social skill songs/activities, group projects, games, and experiments. We have 5th graders who mentor us, and we mentor special needs preschoolers. We host an after school Lego club for 2nd/3rd graders, and Kinder/1st graders.
