This year-long project will give my students the opportunity to create relationships with peers and adults while becoming self reliant and knowledgeable about handling money. Some students have speech and hearing impairments and this project will encourage them to interact with others in a social setting. Special needs classrooms like mine are always working to integrate and have their students feel included. Students will feel pride in and take ownership of a business they create and work on as part of a life-skills unit. All of the students will participate in making coffee using our Gourmia One Touch Multi Capsule Coffee & Espresso Machine and Keurig Gourmet K cups. They will deliver the coffee in recycleable Ordinary Joe coffee cups. They will learn how to use invoices and order products via Amazon for our coffee cart business. We will develop practical life skills as we advertise our product and serve our Coffee Cart customers. These life-skills include: following a recipe, sequencing steps in an activity, fulfilling an order, detecting and using appropriate social cues, sharing, peer-to-peer work, basic number recognition, reading and comprehension, health and hygiene, and so much more!
