The dance department is fairly new to our school and we are committed to developing a fascinating program this year. Because the program is fairly new, there is no actually dance studio space and class is being held on a stage located in the school gym. The only thing that is occupying this space, is simply.... EMPTY SPACE: no barres and most importantly no MIRRORS. We need mirrors for a dance space to promote a positive dance environment and to revamp our schools dance department. My goal is not only to expand the dance program but to also create a dynamic dance environment for my students. Being located in an area heavily impacted with damages caused by Hurricane Harvey, our school is focused on rebuilding. Adding a dance program to the curriculum is essential but the lack of materials and resources can be a hindrance. Mirrors are an important part of the dance learning environment, helping students to check their posture and form and allowing them to be spatially aware. There have been a handful of scientific research studies that prove that the use of mirrors have a better movement retention and the lack of mirrors have a major affect on dancers' performance within a dance studio.
