When teaching in a 7th grade LA classroom, there is rarely a dull moment. I'm constantly looking for new ways to engage my students in what can tend to be a challenging (and not always fascinating) subject for some. I've discovered through some workshops I've attended and interactions with my students that their classroom environment really does have an impact on how engaged they are in the material and how much they're able to take away from a lesson, especially with lessons in the less creative aspects of English, like grammar. Getting materials beyond the necessary textbooks, paper, and coloring supplies through the school's budget, however, can be a struggle in an already strapped community. I'm hoping to find a way to enrich our classroom environment with fidget tools and different materials to help all styles of learners succeed and make it a colorful, safe, comfortable place to learn.
