It is very important for my students to understand that through knowledge, they have the power to create positive changes in our world. The beginning of those positive changes start with my students experiencing the feeling of self-importance within their community. The best place to start is by learning about these experiences through books and class discussions. My students will be able to learn and build new experiences through the characters in the chosen texts. The books that I have selected for this project teach my students about being a good citizen in their own community, about the reasons for making good behavior choices, and about accepting each other’s differences. The selected book titles are as follows: We Live Here Too! Kids Talk about Good Citizenship; I Am a Good Citizen; Citizenship; Being Helpful; The Kid’s Guide to Service Projects, and many other books! Through reading, discussing, and doing activities with these books my students will begin to understand that their actions and choices do have an effect on others. Our children will begin to understand that they can make a difference in our society and make changes for the better! You, our donors, are part of our community, creating change and showing my students that they can make a difference in the world that they live!
