My Pre-K classroom has two sessions, A.M. and P.M. I have a total of 32 students between 4 and 5 years old. Half of my students come from homes where Somali is the primary language. 4 of my students have mild/moderate special education needs. ALL of my students are engaged in learning and excited to be at school! The majority of my students have never been outside the home for formal instruction until this year. We are a language rich environment and do A LOT of singing, poetry and other active pre- literacy activities. Much of what we do is about building vocabulary and exposure to literacy concepts. My students range from no exposure to books to just about ready to read. We meet each child where they are at. My school has a high percentage of students with free and reduced lunch. Poverty and lack of resources does not stop our class/school from striving for knowledge and celebrating every learning success! We are a great community for teaching and learning!
