The Scholastic News magazines will greatly enhance my students Social Studies experience! Beyond history of things such as the American Revolution and explorers, it is important for 5th graders to learn about current events, civics, citizenship, and other cultures. This resource gives each student a magazine or their own each week. The magazine covers recent news topics, civics, geography, etc. Each issue is full of topics relevant and intriguing for my 5th grade students. They include colorful photographs that spark student interest and academic language that increases rigor. We will use these to practice non-fiction reading, text features, and a variety of other ELA skills. We will also use them to partner with other 5th grade classes, our 2nd grade buddy class, and families.
