My students are amazing! I got the opportunity to teach them in Kindergarten last year and they are going to be with me in First grade this year. They are from a low income area of NC and many do not have the opportunity to explore the world outside of their little rural town, but they can explore through books! Many of my students do not even have money for supplies. Our schools budget has been cut for the past 4 years for classroom supplies and right now we have a mix and match book storage system for our classroom library. Whatever bins, buckets and boxes I could find are what I am able to use right now. I believe these kids deserve to have nice, matching, sturdy book bins just like kids at other schools. They really learned to love school last year and I want First grade to be just as exciting. I also want them to be able to have a room that looks different than last year because the work they will be doing in First grade is a lot different from what they did in Kindergarten.
