In our classroom, my students sit in groups of 3-5, some at tables and some at desks. While small group collaboration is an integral component of the daily interactions in our classroom, these opportunities to work together are not enough to positively utilize all of the energy that our students possess. Let’s change our idea of what a “normal” classroom looks like! In the traditional educational system, students have gotten into trouble and continue to get into trouble for moving around and not sitting still while in school. In my time spent with this unique group of students, I realize that it is not only unreasonable to expect this of them, but also detrimental to their ability to learn! By having these desk Bouncy Bands and wobble stools to rotate between students in my classroom, each student will have the opportunity to use their movement to excel in their learning, both within and beyond the classroom.
