Courageous Readers are a big (112) bunch of goofy, zesty, curious, and witty sixth-graders. They love to chant in class, give each other shout-outs, and curl up in a reading corner with a good book. My students have an enormous love-of-learning... they just can't seem to get enough! We belong to a public, charter school system that only serves low-income areas. The community that I work in is the poorest area in the entire city of Houston. Most of my sixth graders come to me on a kindergarten to second-grade reading level and have never owned their own book. We know that the mountain is tall and steep, but we will climb it!
