In going from 13 years of teaching 4th grade to now going to 1st grade. My classroom library has gone from 8 bookcases to only being able to fill one bookshelf. Literacy is the foundation for all learning. It is important that I can have access to books at my student's level right in the classroom. They can read them at school or at home. I can use them to teach or just to read for pleasure. This year, most students are coming into the year with last year being virtual. They did not have access to as many books and are most likely a little further behind than they would normally be entering 1st grade. I want to help fill that gap and give them all the tools they need to be successful 1st graders. They will be allowed to check them out and take them home to practice their skills with their families and show off what they know.
