At our school we offer a class called Skills for Academic Success. During that time, we have a young men's group called Young Kings that meet. During this time we work on conflict resolution, team building, apprenticeships, mentoring and interpersonal skills. Many of our young men don't know how to communicate with each other without fighting and we teach them healthy coping skills. We plan on using this book to lead a book study with them. They will read and discuss this book to learn about other young men who went through difficult situations and overcame the odds to become doctors. Our students need to see positive role models that look like them and come from similar situations.
