These hands-on manipulative kits will allow my students to understand why the standard algorithm works. These will be expecially beneficial to students that are kinesthetic learners and to underachieving students. Most students in today’s classroom become bored and uninterested when they have nothing to touch when listening. Students brains are wired for technology so when teachers use hands on materials they are providing an engaging way for students to connect to math. I bought one set of these to use as an introduction to students and the students loved seeing the connection but didn’t have enough use of them to really connect the concept. This project will allow students to partner up and really see the connection to multiplying fractions.
